Concrete on tracks halts Narita Express, JR Yokosuka Line trains between Tokyo, Yokohama

TOKYO — The JR Yokosuka Line suspended operations between Tokyo and Yokohama stations on the morning of Feb. 22 to remove concrete pieces that fell onto the tracks in a tunnel. According to East Japan Railway Co. (JR East), services resumed at around 3 p.m.

After confirming the presence of fallen objects weighing around 100 kilograms in total, operation between Tokyo and Shinagawa stations were suspended starting from the first train on Feb. 22. At around 9:40 a.m., the closed section was extended between Tokyo and Yokohama stations for removal work.

Consequently, Narita Express trains, which connect Narita Airport in Chiba Prefecture and the greater Tokyo area had stopped operating from the first departure on all routes.
